SCOTUS Rules on Marriage Equality
Posted On: Jun 26, 2015

48 years ago this month the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that it was unconstitutional to prohibit two people of different races from marrying.  In Loving v. Virginia Chief Justice Earl Warren wrote that marriage is one of the basic civil rights of man and fundamental to our very existence and survival.

Today, 46 years after brave men and women first stood up for their rights at the Stonewall Rebellion, Justice Anthony Kennedy echoed Warren’s words when he wrote “no union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice and family.”

I applaud today’s decision and invite all Americans to celebrate as we take one more step on the path to forming a more perfect union.
