Sisters and Brothers of the 11th District,

I hope that all is going well with you in this critical year 2016! The annual Human Rights Committee (HRC) meeting is coming up 4/10-4/16 2016 and I will be attending on District 11’s behalf.  Please send me any human rights issues that are impacting you in the workplace or community to take with me to HRC.

There are few “Save the Dates” that I would like you to ink into your calendars for District 11 social justice issues, the nearest airport codes are listed after the location, the (*) next to the event indicates that I will be in attendance:

Local Women’s Coordinators, please try to attend this event.  As the grassroots arm of the women’s movement, the National Organization for Women is dedicated to its multi-issue and multi-strategy approach to women’s rights. NOW is the largest organization of feminist activists in the United States, with hundreds of thousands of contributing members and more than 500 local and campus affiliates in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.  While not a labor organization, National Fair Practice Affirmative Action Coordinator for the 6th District Jeremy Lannon (now an AFGE National Organizer) and I presented the body with a labor resolution which passed by a large majority of the body! NOW Promoting Union Jobs and Union-Made Products and Service Resolution 2013

I will host strategic planning meetings during the dinner hours at this conference with all who attend from District 11.

Local Women’s Coordinators, please try to attend this event. The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) is the voice of victims and survivors.  NCADV is the catalyst for changing society to have zero tolerance for domestic violence.  They do this by effecting public policy, increasing understanding of the impact of domestic violence, and providing programs and education that drive that change.  I would like to have a Support Our Sisters (SOS)/AFGE District 11 vendor table there as well and facilitate a workshop on Labor Responsibilities to Members and Community – Responsible Collective Bargaining Agreements, Being the Voice for Those Who Cannot Speak.  I will host strategic planning meetings during the dinner hours at this conference with all who attend from District 11.
